What About Sleep Treatment and Meds?
October 9, 2020Pizza dough and sleep
November 9, 2020Did it work? Did I get you to click on the blog post with my silly, catchy title? Well I promise that clicking on this is not just a click-bait ploy. I do have a “loose” thread to tie the topic back into zombies.
So obviously, zombies don’t need sleep because they are the undead, and the undead don’t need sleep. But have you ever thought about why other non-alive creatures don’t need sleep? Like, do plants need sleep?
And technically, no, plants do not need sleep. Plants do not have a central nervous system, which is the regulator for sleep in humans and other mammals. But plants–unlike zombies–do have a 24-hour biological clock called a circadian rhythm with some similarities to our own circadian rhythm.
For example, plants tend to eat (called photosynthesis) during the day when sunshine is delivering vital nutrients to the plant. And plants also have a growth hormone that is triggered by the daylight. Plants will also shift their position slightly as the sun moves across the sky to maximize their exposure to sunshine.
Similar to humans, when the sun goes down plants shift their focus to delivering the glucose (sugar) to their cells, metabolizing the energy during the day.
So it seems all biological creatures (humans included!) benefit from the consistency of a regular rhythm. So next time your rhythm feels off kilter (or you’re just sleep deprived because you’re too busy fending off non-sleeping zombies), one option is to go commune with the plants to see what you can learn from them.
Or you can always reach out to me and schedule a free 15-minute phone consultation to learn more about resetting your body’s natural biological rhythm. Trust me, it’s simpler than it seems!
